Dr. J. Stuart Tims is a board certified ophthalmologist practicing cataract, corneal and refractive surgery in Roanoke, Virginia with Vistar Eye Center. He received his medical degree from the University of Virginia Medical School, followed by residency training at Wake Forest University Eye Center. He then received advanced training in Cornea, External Disease and Refractive Surgery at Eye Consultants of Atlanta under the tutelage of Dr. Alan Kozarsky, among others.
Board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Tims is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the International Society of Refractive Surgery. He has been performing LASIK, cataract and corneal procedures in private practice since 2012, including advanced forms of Lamellar keratoplasty such as DALK and DSEK. He has helped author scientific papers and textbook chapters on corneal disease and surgery.
His first trip to Honduras was in 2000 when as a college student he joined his physician father on a medical mission trip. He returned to Honduras for the first time with Dr. Kozarsky in 2011, and Dr. Tims has been involved in cataract surgery with the ECHO foundation ever since. Dr. Tims has been married to his wife Jessica since 2005 and their daughter Campbell was born in 2012.
