“It is incredible that there are 160,000 Hondurans that are blind from cataract just two and a half airline hours from Atlanta; this is an international health issue that can definitely be solved.” – Dr. Alan Kozarsky
The doctors of Eye Consultants of Atlanta and its refractive surgery division, Piedmont Better Vision, initiated a humanitarian campaign with ECHO Foundation several years ago to aid underprivileged patients in Honduras.
Eye for an Eye has become a huge success, and ECHO recently welcomed Vistar Eye Center to the program. Underprivileged patients in Honduras now have LASIK patients in the Roanoke, Virginia area to thank for their sight!
The doctors of these refractive centers make a donation to ECHO for each refractive procedure performed, and in turn ECHO commits to provide a sight-restoring cataract surgery for a Honduran patient in need. Donations are used to fund ECHO’s cataract surgery brigades and Unidos Visión sustainability initiative. Patients of Piedmont Better Vision and Vistar Eye Center love knowing that each of their procedures not only correct their vision, but give the gift of sight to someone in need. To date, this campaign has cured blindness for over 1,000 patients in Honduras.
